Pride

I have started a new adventure this fall.... teaching our church's high school girls.  I have only taught two weeks now, but I have enjoyed it so much already.  These girls are a special group of girls.  I am so thankful that God has give me the opportunity to teach these girls.  What a great way to "teach the younger women" as Titus commands us in chapter 2.  Pretty awesome and pretty humbling.  I am finding myself learning right along with them!  In fact, in some cases they are teaching me!

I am using a book called "Purely Woman" by Lauren Wilson Black, Khrystian Wilson Lewis and Jordyn Wilson.   An excellent book for a bible study with your younger women (I refuse to call them teenagers!) in your life.

Anyway, going through this weeks lesson I came across this great poem.  This weeks lesson is on Humility.  To have humility in Christ we must first lose our pride.  I am certain that we have all struggled with pride.  I believe that it can be a destroyer of so many things in our lives if we let it.  I came across this poem in "Purely Woman" about pride.  They quote it from Beth Moore's book "Praying God's Word".

"My name is Pride, I am a cheater.
I cheat you of your God-given destiny....because you demand your own way.
I cheat you of contentment...because you "deserve better than this."
I cheat you of knowledge...because you already know it all.
I cheat you of healing....because you're too full of me to forgive.
I cheat you of holiness...because you refuse to admit when you're wrong.
I cheat you of vision...because you'd rather look in the mirror than out the window.
I cheat you genuine friendship...because nobody's going to know the real you.
I cheat you of love....because real romance demands sacrifice.
I cheat you of greatness in heaven...because you refuse to wash another's feet on earth.
I cheat you of God's glory...because I convince you to seek your own.
My name is Pride.  I am a cheater.
You like me because you think I'm always looking out for you.
Untrue.
I am looking to make a fool of you.
God has so much for you, I admit, but don't worry....if you stick with me.....
You'll never know."

Very humbling.

Thought it was too good not to share.

"Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall."  Proverbs 16:18

I have "Praying God's Word"! I've only read a little bit, but it was so powerful. Thanks for sharing, Melissa! May God continue to bless your ministry with those special young women. :-)
