Blue Moon....

This week I read that this New Year's Eve we would experience a Blue Moon in the Western Hemisphere.  I have never really thought about the origin of the phrase "Once in a Blue Moon" but after reading this article it all made sense to me.  A blue moon is when there are two full moons that occur in one month.  This only occurs like only 4-6 years.  Very interesting, I then knew exactly what that phrase really meant!   Justin says that "useless knowledge" is a good thing to have.

Well, today our family had what I hope is a "once in a blue moon" kind of day!

This morning was hard to get out of bed for most of us.  I was up with Israel and Abeba off and on all night.  Both are struggling with colds and sinus infection.  Coughing and stuffy noses were the trouble.  I believe that maybe 2 hours of uninterupted sleep was under my belt.  Never a great way to get a day going!  The morning was busy as we were planning to head to Justin's parents for the weekend.  It was questionable given the night that we had, but none the less, I began packing.  Justin and Eli headed out mid morning for a trip to the barber.  Two minutes had passed by when the house phone rang, and Justin was on the other end saying that he had wrecked and slid his car off the road.  Thankfully, Justin and Eli were not hurt at all, but Justin's car is now headed to the body shop for a new front bumper.  Of course, the last day of the year we will meet that deductible!!  I was glad to have my two men back home in one piece and unhurt.  God is gracious.

We got all of our bags packed and put into the car to head to grandpa and grandma's.  Everyone was excited to get away and the coughing had mostly subsided, or so I thought.   We started on our way with a stop to pick up some things for New Year's Eve and got on the road.  About 5miles down the road, Israel started coughing non stop.  You guessed it, he began to throw up!  Ugh....Justin looked at me and we turned the car around and headed home - four disappointed kids in the car and no doubt 2 bummed grandparents two hours away.

We have spent the evening watching movies and playing Mario on the Wii.  Not exactly what we had planned, but that is okay.  We have learned when you have 4 kids, nothing is ever for sure.  No promises can be made.  It is always a reminder that we are not the ones in control of our lives.  God's providential plans and will will be done, no matter what our earthly plans may be.  For that I am thankful!

I must say though, that I hope that this kind of day only happens "Once in a Blue Moon!"

Happy New Year Everyone!!!
